Seminal plasma and sperm biomarkers: bridging research and clinical practice in male infertility
Thursday, April 29
9h35 – 10h10
Joana Santiago completed her PhD in Biomedicine in 2024, focusing on the impact of age and environmental chemicals on sperm quality, as well as on protein and miRNA profiles. In 2024, she began as an Invited Assistant Professor at the University of Aveiro. Afterwards, she continued her work by identifying candidate sperm and seminal plasma biomarkers for male infertility management using a multi-omics approach. She is now a researcher at the Institute of Biomedicine - iBiMED and principal investigator of the FERTISCAN project. Her current work focuses on validating candidate biomarkers for male fertility management to further develop a diagnostic device prototype based on the identified molecular biomarkers. She is also involved in projects aiming at the development of non-hormonal male contraceptives and investigating the reproductive toxicity of endocrine disruptors and
